Company Memo: Easter Finds, Cherry Blossoms, and Coconut Cake

March 23, 2018

I have to admit, the well has been dry on the blog this week. I had such good intentions to post my signature Frosé recipe and give tips for a spring wardrobe, but then snow set in on Charlottesville, and those ideas seemed ridiculous. Thank goodness for Lorae who swooped down with this week’s Company Memo to remind us that this is, in fact, spring, and Easter is only a week away. Thanks for the encouragement we all needed, Lorae! Have a great weekend, gang.

Easter Egg Decorating Fun
Do you find yourself standing in the aisle leading up to Easter and trying to figure out what dye kit to buy. . . there are too many to choose from. This week I saw Delish’s easter egg decorating idea  and thought it was worth sharing. Who doesn’t have food coloring already on hand? I know my kids will love giving this one a try, and with the possibility for more cold weather before Easter, we may get time to do it.  If this one is not in your lane, there are so many other ideas out there that do not require a kit. I love this easter egg watercolor inspiration. The younger set may enjoy this crayon technique and this nail polish method could be fun (and we could use up some of those colors we’ve been needing to get rid of).
Filling Easter baskets isn’t easy. We can only take so many stuffies, gummies and chocolates. Every year I try to find new and fun items to brighten the baskets, and this year I found something perfectly handcrafted. Lisa will go down as one of my favorites co-workers ever. She and I put in days together at J.Crew back in the day. I always knew how crafty she was but now she is really blowing me away. She has launched her own business called Perch, a home-based creative company to help create beautiful things handpicked for your life and events. The bulk of what Lisa has been promoting is her confections that ooze creativity and beauty. Imagine having these sweet little treats in your Easter baskets this year. I don’t know if I could manage to eat them! Perch does items for all occasions so peruse her website and see all the good stuff Lisa has to offer. She is one of my favorites to watch and hopefully you will enjoy her too!.
TasteMade Coconut Cake
I love Easter cakes of all kinds. When we lived at a boarding school for 8 years, we had a neighbor who always made the cutest Easter cake in shape of a bunny and I always wanted to try. I am a sucker for coconut cakes so TasteMade’s Coconut Cake had me at go. Why it is that coconut cakes are synonymous with Easter I don’t know, but I’m certainly not going to fight it.
Must-Do in DC

If you have a need to get out after being trapped indoors for a few days, this weekend could be a good one in DC. The Cherry Blossom Festival is kicking off on Sunday. The festival lasts until April 17th and it is a beautiful time of year to walk along the Potomac and take in the sights. The blooms are slated to begin opening between March 27 – 31st, but you can check in here to see how weather really affects the blooms. The Blossom Kite Festival is a very family friendly and has a great day of events for anyone to enjoy. I love going and appreciating the history of the festival and the meaning behind the Cherry Blossom and if you are lucky enough maybe you have your own cherry blossom to lie under and enjoy.

Spring Pieces for Your Closet
Finding fun fashion can sometimes be challenging for moms on the go. I decided to share Fresh Nostalgia when they posted this adorable little Easter combo that would be so fun to have in your closet.  While attending a holiday market in Baltimore, I met Beth and loved so many of the hand-picked fashion she had in her mobile boutique. Beth, an educated nutritionist, decided that there was a passion for clothing that she could not ignore. Fresh Nostalgia is a mobile boutique that books events, markets and home party’s for friends to gather and shop. The pieces I acquired are novelty and forward and I love them. If you are looking for something fun and maybe something that you haven’t seen anywhere before, Fresh Nostalgia is the place to go. I’ve picked a few items that are too good to pass up:
Geometric Blouse
STEAL:Grey Whale Midi
Distressed Sweatshirt
Yellow Gingham Top
STEAL:Navy Spelling Skirt
New Blog Series at Charlottesville’s Roxie Daisy
May of you Charlottesvillians are familiar with Roxie Daisy on the downtown mall. Since leaving the Charlottesville area, I have continued following their Instagram to stay on top of their beautifully styled store. They carry so many items to covet, but what I love even more is their community spirit. This month they launched a new blog series called Conversations From Our Couch. This series will be profiling community members doing their best to make their corner of the world better in ways big and small. Their inaugural edition on The Laundry Project was impactful and inspiring and totally doable.
